#1 IRENA’s brief highlights the huge potential for OTEC power generation worldwide

This brief from the Collaborative Framework for Ocean Energy Technologies and Offshore Renewables details alternatives for scaling up investments in ocean energy worldwide. Elaborated by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Ocean Energy Europe (OEE), the report highlights OTEC as the biggest source of marine power generation globally, with a potential of 44,000 TWh. #2 USA will hold the 9th International OTEC Symposium in May

The 9th edition of the International OTEC Symposium will take place May 4-5, 2023 in Houston, Texas. The event covers ocean thermal technologies including OTEC, seawater air-conditioning, low-temperature difference desalination, deep ocean water industry, and more. Learn more here.

#3 Japanese shipping company MOL to develop an OTEC demonstration project

Kume Island, in Okinawa, Japan, was chosen by Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL) for the development of an OTEC demonstration project, aimed to be concluded in 2026. Since April 2022, Mitsui O.S.K. Lines has been a partner in operating a 100-kW OTEC test facility on the island of Kumejima, Okinawa Prefecture. Read more here.
